Elections Cameroon gets ever closer to youth!

“February, a month for exceptional enrolment of youths on electoral registers”. Such is the slogan for the special awareness drive Elections Cameroon is conducting among the driving force of the nation from the 1st to the 10th of February 2024.

Youths constitute more than half of the Cameroonian population, more's the pity their participation in the electoral process is still lukewarm. Considered as the most significant demographic segment of the country, this category is a force to be reckoned with in building the Cameroonian society and, enrolment on electoral registers will serve as the springboard for this category to take an active part in politics.

Conscious of this, and in a bid to ensure greater participation in the Cameroonian electoral process, ELECAM organises special seduction and awareness campaigns on a regular basis among these youths who constitute a large reservoir.

With that in mind, Elections Cameroon has launched a special campaign dubbed “ELECAM gets ever closer to youths”, whose goal is to inform, raise the awareness and encourage youth Cameroonian citizens to enrol in their numbers on electoral registers.

Scheduled to run from the 1st to the 10th of February 2024, this special operation includes a media campaign on community radios in the form of spots produced in a number of vernacular languages drawn from each of the 10 regions in Cameroon as well as on Elections Cameroon digital platform (Facebook and Twitter).

It is for this reason that Elections Cameroon is calling on all youths who have reached voting age, which is 20 years, to go to the ELECAM Council Branch office within their area of residence to be enrolled on an electoral register before the 31st of August 2024.
