On Wednesday, 29 May 2019, at the Conference Hall of ELECAM’s headquarters in Bastos, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board granted audience to a Senegalese delegation. The aim of the meeting was to share experiences on Cameroon’s good practices with regard to policies in the area of inclusion and consideration of minorities within the framework of the electoral process.

In respect to drawing up the electoral register as set out under Section 73 paragraph 1 of the Electoral Code, “no person may have their name entered on more than one electoral register or several times on the same register”.

The Chairperson of Elections Cameroon, alongside the Director General and other frontline staff,received in audience a four-man delegation, led by Ms KatalainaSapolu, from the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group on May 6, 2019, at the head office in Bastos. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the level of preparedness of Elections Cameroon and measures put in place to ensure security in the forthcoming elections in the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon.


This is the outcome of the institution’s celebration of 1 May, the 133rd edition of International Labour Day.

On Tuesday, 23 April 2019, ELECAM, in partnership with the United Nations systems organised in Douala a national meeting with main stakeholders of the electoral process.

According to section 243 of the Electoral Code, regional councilors shall be delegates of divisions elected by indirect universal suffrage and representatives of traditional rulers elected by their peers.

In view of the election of regional councilors, the Electoral College shall be convened by the President of the Republic at least 45 (forty five) days before the date of the poll. In all the regions, electoral colleges shall be convened the same day and each division shall constitute a constituency for the said election.

However, certain electoral constituencies could be warded on the grounds of their peculiar situations by a decree of the President of the Republic.

The chairperson of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, the Director General of Elections Cameroon amongst other frontline staff received in audience a three man delegation from the Commonwealth led by Dr Micheal Wardlaw, Chief Commissioner for the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. This meeting had as main objective to share experience between U.K and Cameroon, on fundamental issues of public institutions to improve fairness, confidence and transparency of public service. Also in attendance were the Representatives of Scotland Public Services Ombudsman and Adviser to National Human Rights Institute Serbia.
