Born on 26 June 1943 in Buea, Prof NJEUMA née EFFANGE Dorothy LIMUNGA hails from the South-West Region, Republic of Cameroon.
After university studies from 1962 to 1966 at Pembroke College in Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island-USA, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She continued her studies from 1966 to 1970, which were crowned by a PhD in Zoology at the University College of London. These studies gain her the rank of Assistant Professor in Genetics and Embryology at the Faculty of Science in the Federal University of Yaounde, upon her return to Cameroon in 1970 and for five years.
In terms of professional career, Prof Dorothy NJEUMA had held top positions like:
- Vice-Minister of National Education, from 1975 to 1985;
- Technical Adviser to the Minister of Scientific and Technical Research, from 1986 to 1988;
- Director General of the Buea University Centre, from 1988 to 1993;
- Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea, from 1993 to 2005;
- Rector of the University of Yaounde I, from 2005 to 2008;
- President of the Conference of Rectors, from 1998 to 2008;
- President of the Federation of University Sports, from 2001 to 2008;
- Vice-President of the Executive Council of the Association African Universities, from 2002 to 2005;
- Member of the Executive Council of the United Nations University, from 2002 to 2007;
- Member, Vice-President, and then President of the Panel of Eminent Personalities of the African Evaluation Mechanism by Peers of NEPAD, from 2003 to 2009.
She took oath on 29 January 2011 before the Supreme Court, seating as the Constitutional Council: “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling under the purview of Elections Cameroon”
