The Director General of Elections, Dr. Erik Essousse, officially launched the revision of the electoral register for the year 2024 on Thursday 4 January 2024 in Yaoundé.
According to Section 74 of the Electoral Code, electoral registers are permanent. They are revised annually throughout the national territory.
In line with this provision of the electoral law, the official launch of the 2024 electoral register revision took place on 4 January in Yaoundé. The 7 council branches of the Mfoundi division were mobilised at two registration sites, namely the Mokolo market and the central post office.
The Director General of Elections, Dr Erik Essousse, led the delegation, whose first stop was a courtesy visit on Naseri Paul BEA, the Governor of the Centre region. Following this first stop, the ELECAM team visited the two registration pools set up at the Mokolo police station and the central post office.
Dr Erik Essousse emphasised the importance of this operation, which comes just a few months before the next elections, to the host of media who accompanied him. He also called on citizens to mobilize massively to obtain their voters' cards."Our aim is to strengthen the electoral register by registering citizens of voting age, especially young people, women and people living with disabilities, so that all social strata are taken into account. The goal we want to achieve this year, since we already have more than 7 million registered voters, is to reach more than 7.5 million," said Dr Erik Essousse.
Every citizen who has reached the age of 20 should go to the council branch in his or her place of residence to register to vote when the time comes.
