Born on 27 March 1945 at Nkolessas - Meyomessala, EFANDENE BEKONO Pierre Roger hails from the South Region of the Republic of Cameroon.

After concluding university studies at the Centre de National d’Etudes Agronomiques des Régions Chaudes in Montpellier, France, from 1981 to 1983, he obtained an agricultural Technology Engineering Diploma, majoring in Plant Health. And then from 1983 to 1985, he studied in Université des Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc in Montpellier, France, where he obtained a Higher Diploma in Agronomic Sciences, specialising in Crop Science, with a major in Weed Science. Finally, he obtained a Postgraduate Doctorate in Plant Science, specialising in Plant Pathology, with a major in Plant Virology, following studies from 1990 to 1995, in the African Centre for Research and Phytosanitary Training of the University of Dschang.

Prior to his appointment as member of the Electoral Board in 2008, he had held important positions such as:

  • Lecturer at the Abong –Mbang Agricultural Technical School / Special Crops, Topography and Laboratory Work, from 1967 to 1969;
  • Chief of the Abong-Mbang Sub-division, from 1969 to 1970;
  • Chief Agriccultural Post for Tekmo-Sangmélima, from 1970 to 1972;
  • Employee in the Ministry of Agriculture, Central Division for Rural Development / Agricultural Studies Service in Yaounde, from 1974 to 1975;
  • Lecturer at the Ebolowa Agricultural Technical School / Special Crops, Agricultural Machinery and Bioclimatology, from 1975 to 1977;
  • Chief of the Provincial Phytosanitary Base for the East at Abong-Mbang, from 1977 to 1981;
  • Chief of Bureau for Weed Science and Other Phytosanitary Interventions, under the Phytosanitary Interventions Service of the Sub-Department for Plant Health, Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, from 1985 to 1988;
  • Chief of the Provincial Phytosanitary Base for the East at Abong-Mbang, from 1988 to 1990;
  • Assistant Permanent Secretary for the Food and Agricultural Organisation /World Food Programme Assistance Management Committee inYaounde, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,1995.

This General Engineer of Agriculture is:

  • Commander of the National Order of Valour;
  • Officer of the National Order of Valour;
  • Knight of the National Order of Valour.

He took oath on 29 January 2009 before the Supreme Court, seating as the Constitutional Council: “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling under the purview of Elections Cameroon”
