ELECTORAL DIPLOMACY: CENI CHAD taps into ELECAM experience

From 29 to 30 July 2019, Elections Cameroon hosted a delegation from the National Independent Electoral Commission of CHAD at its new head office located within the administrative neighbour hood.

As a prelude to twin legislative/local elections, planned for the end of 2019 in Chad, a delegation from the National Independent Electoral Commission recently visited Cameroon as part of a mission to garner experience in electoral matters. The Chadian delegation,composed of Mrs AMMINA EHEMIR TORNA, Head of the Sub-commissionfor Training and Communication (leader of the delegation); Mr TAHIR OLOYHASSAN, Head of the Sub-commission for Control and Monitoring of Election Operations; Mr ISSA ADJIDEI, Director General of the Permanent Bureau for Elections,was accompanied under the circumstance by the Ambassador of CHAD in Cameroon, H.E.MAHAMAT AHMAT KARAMBAL.

On the part of ELECAM, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board,ENOW Abrams EGBE,was accompanied by the Vice-Chairperson of the Electoral Board, the Director General of Elections,Erik ESSOUSSE,theDeputy Director General of Elections and close collaborators.

The working sessions, centred on experience-sharing on the electoral process, were aimed at strengthening and developing the electoral capacities and skills of members of CENI Chad. In this respect, the Chairperson,the Director General of Elections and various ELECAM technical services presented an overview of actions and the functioning of ELECAM within an election as well as a non-election period to their guests. Thereafter, the guests were taken on tour of ELECAM premises, notably the National Centre for Elections Biometrics (NCEB), the ELECAM Regional Delegation for the Centre and some council branches,to enable the Chadian delegation experience the functioning of the electoral system in Cameroon at first hand.

At the conclusion of this visit,the mission leader, AMMINA EHEMIR TORNA,expressed her full satisfaction with the two-day sojourn.She also saluted the fruitful and quality exchanges that far exceeded her expectations, for her delegation, she admitted is sets off for Chad with the conviction of a mission fully accomplished.
